Buying tickets
How to buy, how to pay, and what you get.
How do I buy a ticket?
Open the event link, choose your ticket type and quantity, then pay with card, bank transfer, or USSD through Paystack. Your ticket link is sent to the email you enter at checkout, so use one you can open on the day.
Do I need an account to buy?
No. You buy with your email and payment only. Your ticket lives at the link we send you, not behind a login, so keep that email and the link safe.
Can I buy more than one ticket?
Yes. Set the quantity for each ticket type before you pay. You get one order that holds all the tickets, and you can share a ticket link with each guest coming with you.
What does the price include?
The organiser sets the ticket price. Any service fee is shown on the checkout screen before you pay, so the total you see is the total you are charged.
Ticket not showing
Lost your ticket, code not appearing, or wrong phone.
I paid but my ticket link never arrived.
Check the email you used at checkout and your spam folder. Still nothing? Use the original order email on the recovery page to request eligible ticket links. Delivery is queued if eligible tickets exist. Transferred tickets need the current holder’s access route.
Recover my ticketsThe code on my ticket says it will appear later.
The entry code unlocks a few hours before the event. Open the ticket link again closer to doors. If the event is already happening and the code still does not show, reload the page or contact us.
I opened the ticket on a different phone.
Open the ticket link on the phone you will bring. A device-bound ticket must stay on the phone it was bound to; opening the link on another phone does not transfer it. Online tickets need internet. If the ticket says it is bound elsewhere, contact support.
Can I give my ticket to someone else?
For events that allow transfers, open the transfer option on your ticket. Verify your email, enter the recipient’s details, and share the transfer link. The recipient verifies their own email and claims the ticket. A device-bound ticket also needs preparation on the recipient’s phone before use. Follow the steps on the ticket; transfer eligibility depends on the event and ticket status.
Payment problem
Charged but no confirmation, double charge, or refund.
I was charged but the page says payment failed.
Some banks confirm the charge before Paystack confirms it. Wait 5 minutes, then check your email for a ticket link. If nothing arrives, contact us with the event name and your payment reference.
Get payment helpI was charged twice.
Do not retry immediately — the first payment may still be processing. Check your bank statement after 15 minutes. If two charges appear, contact us with both amounts and we will resolve it.
Can I get a refund?
Refund policies are set by the event organiser. Contact the organiser directly, or reach out to us and we will connect you.
Why is the total more than the ticket price?
A service fee may be added on top of the organiser's price. The full breakdown shows on the checkout screen before you confirm, so you can see exactly what you are paying and why.
At the door
Scanner not reading, short code, screen brightness.
The door crew cannot scan my code.
Turn your screen brightness to maximum. If the camera still cannot read the code, show the door crew the short code printed below the QR code — they can type it in manually.
My phone has no signal at the venue.
Check the access mode shown on your ticket. Device-bound tickets can load offline after they are saved on the bound phone and show Offline ready. Online tickets need an internet connection. Open and check your ticket before travelling.
The ticket says it has already been used.
Each ticket can only admit one person. If you have not been admitted, this might be a duplicate scan — ask the door crew to check the scan log.
Running an event
Event setup, sales, gate crew, and payouts.
How do I create an event?
Sign in with your organiser email, set up the event details, create ticket tiers with pricing, and publish. You get a shareable link immediately.
Organiser sign inIs it free to create an event?
Creating and publishing an event is free. You pay a fee only when a ticket sells, and that fee is shown before you publish, so there are no surprises.
Can I change an event after I publish it?
Yes. Open the event in your dashboard to edit the details, add or adjust ticket tiers, and update the schedule. Guests always see the latest version at the event link.
How do my gate staff use WapGate?
After publishing, open the gate section in your event dashboard. Create a gate link and send it to each crew member's phone. They open it in the browser — no app install needed. The guest list downloads before doors, and scanning works even if the venue connection drops.
When do I get paid?
Check Payouts for your payout setup and provider status. Settlement timing depends on your payment provider and account configuration. Your dashboard shows recorded net proceeds; those figures do not confirm that a bank transfer has completed.
Promoting an event
Referral links, open and invited access, commission, and payouts.
What does a WapGate promoter do?
A promoter shares an event with their audience and earns a commission on the tickets their link sells. You get a unique referral link, and WapGate tracks the sales it brings, so your earnings are counted for you.
Promoter portalHow do I become a promoter?
There are two ways in. If an organiser runs an open event, anyone can join it and get a referral link straight away. If an organiser runs an invite-only event, they send you an invitation by email and you accept it. Either way you sign in with your email, so your sales and earnings stay tied to one account.
What is the difference between open and invite-only events?
On an open event, the organiser lets anyone sign up to promote, so you can join yourself and start sharing. On an invite-only event, only people the organiser invites by email can promote it. The event decides which applies, not the promoter.
How is my commission worked out?
The organiser sets the terms for each event, either a flat amount per ticket or a percentage of the ticket price. You see the terms when you join, and your dashboard shows what each sale earned.
How does my referral link track sales?
When someone opens your link, WapGate remembers it on their device for 48 hours. If they buy within that window, the sale is credited to you. The first promoter link a buyer opens is the one that counts, so sharing early pays off.
When and how do promoters get paid?
Add your bank details in Payouts and check your recorded earnings and payout status there. Payment follows the event terms, your account setup, and payout processing, so a recorded commission is a record of what you earned, not a confirmation that the money has reached your bank.
